Data Advisory at Stears

Our data advisory team creates research and data products across various sectors. We are a team of analytical thinkers who work with companies, governments, startups and investors. The team has expertise in economic research, data analytics, data collection, industry analysis, and consulting. 

We are looking for someone with strong research and problem-solving skills that can be applied to a range of industries and thematic areas. The best candidates would be able to communicate their views and opinions effectively in both oral and written form. 

The Senior Associate will report to the Chief Economist and be based in Nigeria. The Stears team is working remotely due to the pandemic.

Client Projects & Advisory

  • Manage delivery of research projects, including liaising with clients and analysts, execute data collection exercises, writing and editing research output;

  • Prepare and deliver briefs & reports for clients, including economic & industry analysis, data collection, interpretation and analysis; and

  • Work with the team to prepare scoping documents and proposals for clients, helping to understand client needs and research requirements. 

Data Analysis & Research

  • Design methodology used for data collection and analysis (quantitative & qualitative), ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data;

  • Maintain and develop proprietary datasets and bring forward information sources for continually enhancing our data offering; and

  • Contribute to enhancing the quality of all data & research used for modelling & analysis.

Product development 

  • Support the team in the development of new information products and data services by:

  • Taking charge of specific strategic initiatives as assigned by the team lead, to identify market opportunities, target audience and data needs

  • Propose and implement product development across all data products.

  • Pitch ideas and strategic insights to the team lead for client solutions



The ideal requirements for this role are:

  • No specific academic background is required but a degree in economics, finance or a similar analytical field is prefered.

  • Three to five years previous experience in a role related to research, analysis and fulfilling client projects; exposure to a consulting environment and supporting senior consultants; 

  • Strong, demonstrable knowledge of Nigerian finance and the economy; interest in sub-national economic developments in Nigeria and related themes (such as demographics, urbanisation);

  • Moderate understanding of the use of statistics in research; familiarity with sampling, data collection and data verification;

  • Exceptional writing skills and an ability to produce content in a concise and client-friendly manner;

  • Strong oral communication skills and an ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas and insights with team members and clients; and

  • Problem solving skills with the ability to analyse and structure information to meet clients’ objectives.
