Nigeria’s worsening insecurity in seven charts

“See something, say something.”

These were the words of the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during an interview with Arise News on insecurity in the state. The phrase was the introduction to his strategy and tips for dealing with the rising levels of crime. 

“It’s really around everyone understanding who is in your neighbourhood.”

“Simple security tip, you know, you’re in traffic, roll up your glass if you have to. Make sure you’re not standing by the street side and holding a phone without being security conscious.”

I don’t mind getting this advice from my friends and family, but there is something off about the governor of a state telling us to roll up our windows in traffic. Excuse me sir, but what if I need my windows down for air? And how about the windows that have been smashed by robbers?  

What I see is a governor who knows
